Reflective Essay

When I first walked into this English class, I honestly didn’t expect it to have much of an impact on who I am today. I thought it would mostly be about writing essays and getting grades. Looking back now, I realize that the assignments in this class helped me grow in ways I didn’t expect, especially in how I communicate, work with others, and think about my future.

One of the first assignments that really stood out to me was the resume and cover letter project. Before this, I didn’t really know how to create a proper resume or how important it is to make connections. Working on this assignment helped me understand how to present myself professionally and how to highlight my skills in a way that actually makes sense to employers. It made me feel more prepared for the future and gave me confidence that I didn’t have before.

The probability lab report was another assignment that pushed me outside of my comfort zone. I wasn’t used to writing in a research-based format, so learning how to analyze data and explain results clearly was challenging at first. However, by the end of the project, I felt more confident in my ability to do research and organize information in a logical way. This assignment showed me that writing isn’t just about opinions—it can also be about clearly explaining facts and evidence.

The proposal project was one of the most meaningful experiences in the class because it involved working with a group. My group and I worked together to propose a new student center, and through this process, I learned how important teamwork and communication are. We had to share ideas, compromise, and rely on each other to complete the project. This helped me become better at listening to others and contributing to a group, which is something I know will be important in the future.

The technical description assignment was another big moment of growth for me. I explained what search engines are and how they work, which forced me to take complex information and make it understandable for people who didn’t already know about the topic. On top of that, presenting this information in a gallery walk was a new experience for me. Standing there and explaining my work to others helped build my confidence and showed me that I can explain technical topics in a clear and engaging way.

Overall, this English class helped shape who I am today compared to when I first started. I didn’t just improve my writing—I learned practical skills like professionalism, research, teamwork, and public speaking. These assignments helped prepare me for real-life situations, and because of that, this class ended up being much more important to me than I ever expected.
